A baby was left on a grassy area in Taranaki after a man stole a car the child had been in, as reported by the police.
The incident, described as a “concerning theft,” occurred in Waitara on Friday. Authorities have reached out to the public for any additional information regarding the incident.
According to the police statement, a man purportedly took the vehicle from outside a Waitara store shortly after noon.
“The man allegedly took the vehicle with a baby in the backseat, immediately after the victim left the vehicle,” police stated.
Fortunately, the baby was found unharmed on a grassy area near the intersection of Queen and Cameron Street.
The authorities located the abandoned vehicle at the intersection of Henui and Mclean Streets around 6 a.m. today, after it had been driven throughout Taranaki over the weekend.
They also mentioned that an associate of the suspected thief had been apprehended, and investigations were underway to locate him.
