New and expectant mothers in Queens received essential baby supplies just in time for Mother’s Day during a heartwarming giveaway event.
Organized at Councilwoman Sandra Ung and Linda Lee’s offices, the event saw diapers, baby formula, and wipes being distributed to mothers-to-be and those already navigating motherhood.
The generosity was made possible through the contributions of nonprofits Met Council and UA, in collaboration with the speaker’s office and city council.
UA3, one of the involved nonprofits, acted swiftly upon learning of surplus baby formula from their retail partners. Kate Mooney of UA3 expressed, “We recognize the financial strain baby formula can cause and remembering recent shortages, we acted promptly to acquire and distribute these much-needed supplies.”
Councilwoman Ung emphasized the importance of supporting mothers, particularly amidst economic challenges. She stated, “Motherhood is demanding, especially with the current cost of living. This initiative aims to alleviate some of the burden.”
Dominique Brown, a 26-year-old expectant mother from Queens Village, shared her gratitude for the assistance. Preparing for the arrival of her first child, she collected diapers, formula, and wipes from the giveaway. Brown remarked, “Every bit helps, especially in today’s tough economy. Being a first-time mom comes with numerous expenses, so this support is invaluable.”
She highlighted the significance of the donated products in easing her transition into motherhood, expressing how meaningful the gesture is not only for her but also for her soon-to-arrive baby girl.
