In a heart-stopping incident at Thatto Heath, St Helens, on Saturday, April 6, three-year-old Ayda Kenny found herself in a life-threatening situation after falling into a nearby lake. Moments after dashing out from a neighboring residence, Ayda tumbled into the water, setting off a chain of events that would put her life in jeopardy.
However, fortune smiled upon Ayda that day as an off-duty nurse, Janet Grace, who was coincidentally visiting her sister nearby, sprang into action. Her swift response, along with the efforts of Merseyside Police Targeted and Response teams, paramedics, and the air ambulance, played a pivotal role in ensuring Ayda’s survival.
Alex Price, Ayda’s relieved mother, expressed profound gratitude to all involved in her daughter’s rescue. “I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers as I truly believe this has helped Ayda’s recovery,” she conveyed, her voice imbued with emotion. “Ayda has had a tough journey, one which is every parent‘s worst nightmare. I am so grateful that it has ended with the best possible outcome with no lasting damage, it really is a miracle.”
Reflecting on the harrowing ordeal, Alex extended special acknowledgment to the individuals whose actions proved instrumental in Ayda’s rescue. “I would like to mention specific thanks to the Merseyside Police Targeted and Response teams and Janet Grace, Respiratory Specialist Nurse, who happened to be visiting her sister, my next door neighbor, at the time of the accident. I would also like to thank the paramedics and the air ambulance. Together as a team, they worked hard to give Ayda the best quality CPR. I firmly believe she was in the right place at the right time as these swift and thorough actions saved her life.”
Ayda’s miraculous recovery has been a source of solace for her family and a testament to the power of community support. “A special thanks to the amazing staff at Alder Hey and also to my close friends, family, and neighbors who have come together as a community to support me through the worst experience of my life,” Alex expressed, her voice filled with gratitude and relief. “Ayda’s strength and resilience have defied all odds, and I am so proud to be her mum.”
Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan commended the bravery and quick thinking of the officers involved in Ayda’s rescue. “I’m really proud of the seven officers who saw and bravely rescued three-year-old Ayda after she had fallen into a lake in Thatto Heath on Saturday, 6 April,” he stated. “Their actions saved Ayda’s life, and I am in awe of them and Respiratory Specialist Nurse, Janet Grace who was also at the lake.”
