WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Allegheny County homicide detectives have initiated an investigation following the tragic death of a 17-month-old boy in West Mifflin.
Emergency services were swiftly deployed to a residence on Glenny Lane in the 2600 block shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving reports of the toddler’s unresponsiveness.
Witnesses recounted a substantial law enforcement presence at the scene, observing as the child was carefully brought out of the residence and transported to the hospital.
Despite prompt medical attention at UPMC McKeesport Hospital, the young boy was pronounced dead upon arrival. Investigators maintained a presence at the residence for an extended duration following the incident.
The Allegheny County medical examiner has identified the toddler as Ashton Hooper.
“Initial assessments suggest no evident signs of trauma in connection with this case, however, investigations are ongoing pending further analysis by the medical examiner’s office,” authorities stated on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the deceased child resided with several siblings and their parents, some of whom have reportedly been unwell recently, including the toddler.
