Grieving Saginaw Mother Appeals for Justice in Son’s Murder Case

by sun

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – A Saginaw mother is fervently appealing for assistance to seek justice for her son, who tragically lost his life in a violent incident. Cortez Hampton, aged 15, was discovered shot and fatally wounded in an abandoned residence this past July. His mother, Amanda Walker, is determined to find answers and believes she may know who is responsible, but she is reliant on the public’s support to bring her son’s perpetrators to justice.

Amanda Walker, overcome with grief, shared her memories of her son, emphasizing the promising path he was on before his untimely demise. “He was working for my husband’s boss, earning an honest living, and engaging in positive activities. He was looking forward to the 11th grade, a bright and intelligent young man,” said Walker, her voice trembling with emotion.

Yet, the passing of three months has done little to lessen the anguish for Walker. She described the daily struggle of maintaining happiness and being present for her other children while grappling with the heart-wrenching loss of her beloved son.

The tragedy unfolded on the morning of July 7th at an abandoned residence situated in the 2000 block of South Jefferson. The Saginaw Police Department was summoned to the scene shortly before 10 a.m., discovering Cortez Hampton with at least one fatal gunshot wound.

Walker strongly believes that the incident was premeditated and carried out by individuals her son had considered friends. “My son left with them, thinking he was going to a party,” she disclosed, though she asserts there was no party. Instead, she believes that Cortez’s friends had ulterior motives because he had refused to participate in criminal activities. Tragically, not only did they take her son’s life, but they also documented his final moments.

“He simply wanted them to be his friends. He just wanted to be a part of something, and he said, ‘I can’t believe you all are really going to do me like this. I thought you all were my friends,’ and raised his hands up, and they shot him,” Walker recounted, her pain palpable.

In her quest for justice, Walker is actively working to obtain the video of the incident to provide it to law enforcement authorities. She made a heartfelt plea for those in possession of the video to come forward and “do the right thing” by giving it to the police.

As of now, the investigation into Cortez Hampton’s murder remains ongoing, and no suspects are in custody. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this tragic case to contact the police immediately.
