Meredith Gaudreau is honoring the memory of her late husband, NHL player Johnny Gaudreau, as she raises their children.
On Monday, April 14, Meredith shared a touching photo on her Instagram Stories featuring her newborn son, Carter Michael, wearing his first hockey jersey. While the jersey is currently too large for the infant, Meredith wrapped it around him, proudly displaying her husband’s last name and his number on the back.
“Carter’s first jersey! Thank you @nhlflames,” Meredith wrote alongside the photo.
Carter was born on April 1, seven months after Johnny’s tragic death in a biking accident alongside his brother, Matthew. Meredith, who is also mother to daughter Noa and son Johnny, had announced Carter’s arrival on April 7 with a 14-photo carousel on Instagram. The post included images from the delivery room and moments with all three children.
“I had our third baby! 4/1/25. Another baby boy,” she wrote in the caption. “Carter Michael Gaudreau — same middle name as his daddy. 8lb 3 ounces, 20.5 inches — exactly the same as his daddy. He looks exactly like his daddy too.”
She added, “I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever.”
Meredith’s announcement comes just three months after her sister-in-law, Madeline Gaudreau, gave birth to a baby boy named Tripp Matthew, the first child for Madeline and Johnny’s brother, Matthew. The family’s growing bond was highlighted when Madeline shared support for Meredith’s newborn, calling Carter “Tripp’s best friend” in a post on her Instagram Stories.
“My second nephew,” Madeline wrote, referring to Carter. “Tripp’s best friend.”
