Baby Food Sold at Target Recalled Nationwide Due to Lead Contamination

by daisy

Target has issued a recall for its Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Puree after high lead levels were detected. The 4-ounce jars of baby food, intended for infants 6 months and older, were sold in stores nationwide.

The recall affects approximately 25,600 units of the product, with lot numbers 4169 and 4167, and expiration dates of December 7 and December 9, 2025. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first announced the recall on March 12, but the risk classification was shared only last week.

The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall. This means that while exposure to the product could lead to temporary or reversible health issues, the risk of serious health consequences is considered low.

Lead is a naturally occurring metal that can be harmful to health, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Children are especially vulnerable, and even small amounts of lead in their blood can cause developmental delays, learning difficulties, and behavioral problems. No safe level of lead exposure for children has been identified.

The recall is still active, and consumers are advised to check their purchases.
