Registration Open for Staten Island 5K to Support Newborn Care

by daisy

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) will host its annual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 12, at Silver Lake Park to raise funds for the Wayne Zenna Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which cares for high-risk newborns.

The race honors Arnold Obey and Rory DeCristoforo, who both have ties to RUMC. Obey, a former basketball coach and educator, passed away in 2020, while DeCristoforo, a 7-year-old girl, tragically died in a house fire in January 2024.

Proceeds will support the renovation of RUMC’s NICU, known for its over 99% survival rate. Dr. Santosh Parab, RUMC’s neonatology chief, said the updates will enhance family-centered care.

A special tribute will also be made to the Saukin family in memory of Dr. Tamara Saukin, a family medicine practitioner at RUMC who passed in 2020.
