BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) — On February 26, Kelsey Woodrum’s world was shattered. She received a call informing her that her 15-year-old son, Cole Turner, had been shot multiple times by Bloomington Police.
The incident took place behind 806 Arcadia Drive. Witnesses reported seeing an armed individual in the area, prompting police to respond. In a statement, Bloomington Police said officers fired their weapons after the situation escalated.
Woodrum was left in disbelief, struggling to process the loss of her child. “I wanted to know if he was okay,” she said, unable to fully grasp the situation.
The Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting, as required by state law. Bloomington Police have not disclosed how many officers fired at Turner or whether he was armed, as some witnesses had claimed.
Woodrum has vowed to seek justice for her son. “I won’t stop fighting, I will never stop fighting,” she said. “I will do anything I can to ensure justice for my son.”
She also shared that Cole had big dreams. “He wanted to go to law school, become a district attorney, and help people. I know he needed someone to help him when he was younger.”
To demand answers, Woodrum and family friends have organized a protest, scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
