Lily Collins and her husband, Charlie McDowell, are now parents! The couple recently welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Tove Jane, through a surrogate.
Collins shared the happy news on Instagram, posting a heartwarming photo of baby Tove in a flowered bonnet. She wrote, “Welcome to the centre of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again.”
The announcement came as a surprise, as the couple had not publicly revealed that they were expecting. However, both had expressed their desire for a family. In 2017, Collins shared with Us Weekly that her decision to address her eating disorder was tied to her wish to have children. She said, “I wanted kids. I didn’t want this to be something I bring into that.”
McDowell, a director and screenwriter, also spoke about starting a family in an October 2024 interview with E! He mentioned that they were thinking about the next stage of their lives, saying, “We would like to move into that next stage, so we’ll see when it happens.”
Collins and McDowell, who got married in September 2021 in a private ceremony in Colorado, met while working together on the 2019 film Gilded Rage, which McDowell directed and Collins starred in. The couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary last year, with Collins sharing on Instagram that “the best is still to come”—possibly hinting at the arrival of their baby girl.
