In a positive turn for children’s health and well-being, Nancy Shukri, the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, has announced that 448 out of 560 children rescued from charitable homes linked to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd have now been safely returned to their families.
A Key Step for Children’s Mental and Emotional Health
The return of these children is a significant step in supporting their overall health. Studies have consistently shown that growing up in a family environment is essential for a child’s emotional and psychological development. Being with their families provides children with a sense of security, belonging, and love—fundamental elements for healthy mental growth.
Minister Shukri Highlights the Ministry’s Commitment
Minister Nancy Shukri stressed that the ministry’s primary focus has always been the welfare and safety of the children. “Previously, we had to wait for police reports and legal processes to conclude. Now that everything is finalized, it is crucial that these children are reunited with their parents,” she explained. She further reassured parents that they could safely approach the ministry to discuss the process of regaining custody.
Continued Care for Remaining Children
While the majority of the children have been returned to their families, additional arrangements have been made for others. Five children have been placed with suitable guardians, while 107 others are now residing in eight social welfare department institutions, under both permanent and interim court orders.
The ministry’s actions reflect its dedication to protecting the rights and well-being of children. By ensuring that children are either returned to their families or placed in appropriate care settings, the ministry is taking critical steps to promote the healthy development of these young individuals.
