Woman Rescues Baby Found in Kansas Canal, Sparks Police Investigation

A woman driving along Interstate 135 in Wichita, Kansas, spotted what she initially thought was a doll in a drainage canal. It turned out to be an 11-month-old baby girl. Vickie Wyant, the woman who made the discovery, immediately called 911. Police and fire crews responded and rescued the baby from the canal.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting officers to conduct a welfare check near Interstate 135 and Pawnee following reports of a child in the drainage canal.

The baby was safely retrieved and taken to the hospital for a precautionary medical evaluation. She is now under police protective custody.
