NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee is offering free “Baby in the Back” hangtags to parents to prevent children from being left in hot cars, the secretary of state announced.
“The ‘Baby in the Back’ program can make a crucial difference in protecting our youngest citizens from extreme temperatures,” said Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett. “With this week’s expected heat and more hot days likely ahead, we want all parents and caregivers to know about our free program that can save lives.”
Secretary Hargett noted that cars can quickly reach 140 degrees in extreme heat and that cases of children being forgotten in cars have been rising.
“Tragically, we’ve heard stories of children being accidentally left in hot cars,” Hargett said. “The ‘Baby in the Back’ hangtag program aims to remind parents and caregivers to check the back seat one last time to ensure their child is safe during hot weather.”
