After two rounds of CPR, Officer Hiltz detected a pulse and the infant began to show signs of life.

The baby was promptly transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for observation. As of the latest update, named baby Luis IV and his mother were reported to be in good health.

Reflecting on the incident, Officer Hiltz expressed his relief and joy, stating, “My entire focus was on making sure baby Luis was going to be okay. It felt amazing to hear him cry. In that moment, all the stress and fear of the situation just left me.”

Officer Hiltz, who has served with APD for over four years, emphasized the rewarding nature of his job, particularly in moments like these where he can directly assist families in need.

Both officers visited baby Luis and his family during the week of June 3, where they witnessed the joy and pride of the parents firsthand.

“I could feel the excitement and pride of Mom and Dad,” Officer Hiltz remarked.

The APD commended Officers Hiltz and Reilly for their quick response and dedication to duty in ensuring a positive outcome for baby Luis and his family.
