Authorities in Morgantown, West Virginia are delving into the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the discovery of an infant found deceased inside a parked SUV.

Morgantown Police responded to a distress call reporting a cardiac arrest in the 3600 block of Collins Ferry Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found emergency medical services (EMS) stationed in the parking area adjacent to an SUV. Inside the vehicle, nestled in a child’s car seat in the back, lay the lifeless body of a young child.

EMS personnel informed police that the infant had tragically passed away.

Expressing condolences, Morgantown Police Department Chief Eric Powell conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and friends, recognizing the profound impact of such a loss on the community.

Authorities disclosed to KDKA that the child, aged three months, had seemingly been unintentionally left inside the vehicle while the parent was at work.

Efforts are underway to ascertain the duration the child was left in the car, with suspicions suggesting it may have been several hours.

The investigation remains ongoing, with Morgantown Police collaborating with the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office.
