The Welsh Government is urging parents not to overlook the opportunity for free school essentials available to them.
Families with children on lower incomes who receive specific benefits, those in asylum-seeking situations, and children in care are eligible to claim £125 annually to assist with school-related expenses. Moreover, pupils entering year 7, facing the additional expenses associated with the transition to secondary school, can access £200 in support. Notably, this assistance could also translate into supplementary funding for schools.
With the application deadline set for May 31, there is still time for eligible families to ascertain their entitlement and submit their applications for this year’s funding. Importantly, parents can apply each year for every child in their care.
Eligibility for the funding extends to pupils aged 5-16 across various educational settings, including mainstream schools, special schools, and pupil referral units.
The grant can be utilized for various purposes, including the purchase of school uniforms, coats, and shoes, as well as covering costs associated with school activities such as learning musical instruments, acquiring sports kit, and obtaining equipment for after-school engagements. Additionally, it can be used to procure classroom essentials such as pens, pencils, and bags.
